Over 50 Attend Voter Education Workshop at PIC Islamic Center in the Bronx
Bronx, New York, October 16, 2026: More than 50 members of the Bengali community attended a Voter Language Assistance (VLA) workshop at the PIC Islamic Center auditorium, learning about voter registration, early voting, language assistance, and Election Day procedures.
Imam Muhammad Shahedullah, Civic Engagement Commission (CEC) VLA Advisor and CEO of Save the People, led the presentation. He explained how eligible citizens can register, locate their assigned polling places, and cast their ballots. Participants also watched an educational video explaining the voting process.
Imam Obaidul Haq spoke about the importance of voting and civic participation. Volunteer Fahim and other youth volunteers supported the workshop and assisted attendees.
Official information from the NYC Board of Elections and CEC provides the following guidance for community members preparing to vote:
Register and check your status: Eligible citizens can register online, by mail, or in person. Registration applications must be received by October 24, 2026, to vote in the November general election. Residents can visit vote.nyc for registration instructions. (vote.nyc, nyc.gov)
Choose when to vote: Early voting runs from October 24 through November 1, 2026, with hours varying by day. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, with polls open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. (vote.nyc)
Find the correct location: Voters should enter their home address at findmypollsite.vote.nyc to check their assigned voting location. An early voting site may differ from an Election Day site, and locations may have changed since the previous election. (nyc.gov)
Cast a ballot: At the assigned polling place, voters check in with a poll worker, sign the voter list, and receive a paper ballot. They mark their choices privately, following the ballot instructions, and insert the completed ballot into the scanner to cast their vote. Poll workers can explain the process. (vote.nyc, vote.nyc)
Request language assistance: The CEC provides interpretation, including Bengali, at selected polling locations. For this election, most CEC early voting interpretation services are scheduled for October 31 and November 1, with services also available on November 3. Voters should check the CEC website for participating sites and languages. (nyc.gov)
Voters may also bring an eligible interpreter of their choice, such as a friend or family member, provided that person is not their employer or union representative. For voting information, residents can call 1-866-VOTE-NYC (1-866-868-3692). (nyc.gov, vote.nyc)
The workshop brought practical voter education directly to the Bengali community, helping participants understand the process and prepare to vote with greater confidence.
